Ultrasound uses sound waves to make images of your organs and body.  An ultrasound is performed by a certified ultrasound technician and interpreted by a board certified physician radiologist.

1. Safe & All Inclusive – Ultrasound is safe, comfortable, no radiation and with no contraindication, i.e. it can serve all kinds of peo0ple regardless of age, gender, and with or without any medical underlying issues. On the other hand, CT uses radiation and should not be the exam of choice for young people, pregnant women and those whose renal function is impaired. MRI is not indicated for those with metal implants, such as hip implants or surgical screws. In addition, MRI produces noise and requires a great degree of bodily cooperation from the patient. It may not be suitable for those who cannot tolerate noise or cannot keep their body steady for long periods of time.

2. Skillset of Sonographer – Ultrasound is a dynamic diagnostic process. An experienced Sonographer can adjust their scanning on the fly to acquire more precise information. In contrast, CT and MRI are static tools with pre-set parameters which cannot be changed. This affords them less flexibility during exams than an Ultrasound.

3. Affordable – The average ultrasound comes at only the fraction of the cost of a CT or MRI. This makes follow-up arrangements more affordable when needed.

A board certified Radiologist specialized in medical imaging will be interpreting your exam. At Fast Track Ultrasound, our turnaround time for the results is 24 hours. Your doctor will be sent the results immediately after the report is completed. In the event of a medical emergency, we will contact your doctor directly.

An ultrasound technician will introduce themself and bring them to the scanning room, where you will change into a hospital gown.  The ultrasound requires a probe to be pressed against your body with light pressure in order to obtain the necessary images.  An ultrasound ranges between 20 minutes to 60 minutes, depending on the type of scan.  There are three main types of ultrasound probes: transabdominal, transvaginal, and transrectal.  The type of probe chosen will depend on the examination type.  You will never be forced into such an exam if you are uncomfortable with this.

It is always best to get the ultrasound probe as close as possible to the part being imaged (ovaries and uterus) as possible to obtain the highly detailed images needed. You will never be forced into such an exam if you’re uncomfortable with this.
